Your Stress Levels....

Your Stress Levels…  In our day to day lives, stress seems inevitable.  No matter what we are doing, stress seems to have taken its toll on all of us.  As we continue to go into the technological age, we find ourselves so connected to the outside world that stress comes in twenty-four hours a day. What most people do not realize is that are many ways to defeat stress.  In our ever growing search for the "quick fix," we stop listening to our bodies and the warning signs associated with stress, and search for an easy-to-swallow capsule.   While Western medicine treats an ailment based on the symptoms presented, holistic and natural medicine looks at the belief that the body and mind are linked in such a way that focusing on the disease and the symptoms may not be enough.  A holistic practitioner looks deeper, at the imbalances of our lifestyle that may be to blame. The body is developed in such a way that it naturally has mechanisms to heal itself. ...

Prevention is worth a Pound of Cure...

2 – Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure  It seems like everywhere you look, there’s a new pill or medicine that will ‘instantly cure’ your sickness, disease or health issue.  And while taking a pill to cure what ails you might be convenient and simple, maybe it’s really time to sit down and take a good, long look at what you’re feeding your body, or as it might be, not feeding your body.  Are you truly giving your body the nutrients it needs to take care of itself?  Most of us find when we take a look at what we’ve been eating that the choices we’ve been making in the name of convenience, simplicity, or saving time have actually been detrimental to our overall health – body, mind and spirit.   Our modern day diet largely consists of excessive consumption of starch, sugar, fried and fatty foods. As a result, diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s and some cancers are becoming more and more common.  Healthy foods and good nutrition...

Kill The MOLD..

Kill The MOLD…..  Do you get warm feelings in your heart when you think about your home? Is it emotions or the onset of a heart attack? Research is now pointing a finger at our houses as the leading cause of heart disease. Time magazine recently did an article on inflammation (Feb 23, 2004) and its affect on the human body. These effects include a wide range of problems, including:     Alzheimer's     Cardio vascular issues     Arthritis     Colon cancer. Our inflammatory systems are there for a reason … to prevent disease and injury. It is the body's response to invasion by little creatures that want to do us harm.  But sometimes, like a juvenile delinquent, our systems go bad.  Sometimes, the army we sent to the site of an injury or infected area, mistake our body parts for invaders. Instead of this army destroying bad guys, it focuses on destroying us.  Old Ideas  For many years, researchers thought ...

The Influence Of Television In Our Lives..

The influence of Television on our lives  Television has always been used as a medium to educate, entertain and instruct. Many years ago in India, the television was used as one effective way to send birth control messages to its vast population scattered in villages all over the country. Many years ago, less developed countries used television as a means to educate and inform the public. In the West, the purpose has always been more to entertain. These days however, even the less developed nations are seeing the ‘idiot box’ as a small cinema. One just needs to look at the models of the goggle box that is coming into the market to realize this. The television set today is a necessity in most households and no longer a luxury.  Television is also used to raise the public’s awareness about matters relating to crime, punishment, social responsibilities and government policies. Malaysia for instance, warns its people about drugs and, the punishment meted out to those involved in d...

lazy vegetarians who take the wrong carbs and risk health

29 – Lazy Vegetarians Who Choose the Wrong Carbs Risk Health We’ve all been there. We’ve just come in from a long day at work and the last thing on our minds taking the time to prepare a healthy, nutritionally sound vegetarian meal.  But choosing a refined or enriched carbohydrate over the beneficial carbohydrates that a solid, well-balanced vegetarian diet offers defeats the purpose of your decision to live a vegetarian lifestyle, and that’s for optimal health.  Consuming refined carbohydrates presents different hazards to your health.  The over-consumption of refined carbohydrates and sugars can result in excess insulin in the bloodstream. In the presence of excess insulin, glucose, the blood sugar, is converted to triglycerides and stored in the fat cells of the body.  According to one study, consuming refined grains may also increase your risk of getting stomach cancer. The research found that a high intake of refined grains could increase a patient's risk of sto...

Is your child getting the right nutrition....

Is Your Child Getting The Right Nutrition….  Most parents would worry that if they keep their children from eating those fatty foods that they love, and only offer vegetables, that the children will starve, or have nutritional deficiencies.  These parents feel that the kids will just not eat the food.  If you think about it this way, how much nutrients are they receiving from the fatty, processed foods now?  If their diet consists of French fries, mashed potatoes, apple sauce, chocolate pudding, and maybe chicken fingers, how could it be worse if you only offer fruits and vegetables?  Sure, maybe they will demand to have the foods they like, and not eat.  They will eventually get hungry and if you keep offering fruits and vegetables and do not give in, you will see that they will begin to enjoy it, especially if they see everyone else in the family eating healthier. Incorporate bean soups, such as yummy lentil soup and if that doesn’t work make your lentil ...

Drafting a Program....

Drafting a Program….. With your first preparatory work for a speech, you may start thinking of drafting a program for your presentation. Typically, this will involve picking a theme, sketching out context, and preparing a schedule for the program. These are all very important ingredients in the successful preparation of a perfect presentation.  Many presentations have a theme, ranging from fact to abstract. If the idea of making an overall theme appeals to you, it is important that you must be aware of some of the key advantages and disadvantages before choosing the right one for the presentation. The chooser of a theme can provide a backbone to your presentation referred to in notices and invitations.  Having thought carefully about the type of presentation you are organizing, you should already have some ideas of what things you want to include in the presentation. For example, a sales endorsement divides itself up almost automatically into separate times of presenting...

The difficulties Parents Face While Bringing Up A Child....

The difficulties faced when parents have to divide their time between their work and bringing up a family    Not too long ago the male parent (father) was the breadwinner in the family. Mothers stayed at home and looked after the children. Nowadays declining population, economics and the women’s liberation movement have encouraged mothers to work. The traditional roles of mothers mainly looking after the children and fathers working to support the families have drastically changed. Mothers and fathers both work now and also raise their children. This trend raises difficulties for both the parents in having to divide their time between working and bring up families.  Many fathers experience difficulties in accepting the change in women’s roles. Fathers can accept that women have to work. However, they may not always readily accept the fact that women ask of their help in doing the household chores. They may resent this and quarrels may ensue because of it. This in turn may...

Body Temperature Update..

A Little More About Body Temperature As you've learned, your body temperature is really an internal clock that keeps us awake and sleeping at certain times.  It's also extremely important to understand that the rise and drop of body temperature is a hint for our body to produce the feelings of being awake or being tired.  Whenever your body temperature begins to fall, you will feel tired, lethargic, and drowsier. Whenever your body temperature rises, you will feel more energetic, alert, and be able to focus better. Don't mistake the fall of body temperature at certain times during the day as the need to sleep. Your body temperature may rise and drop several times in the day as a response to the activities you're doing at the time. Whenever you put big physical demands on your body your body temperature will rise above the norm. As a response to any intensive physical activity, the body temperature drops for a while as soon as you stop the activity.  For example, if you ...

some great ideas for cooking rice....

Some Great Ideas for Cooking Rice..  Rice doesn't have to be boring. Here are seven useful ideas for new ways to cook rice. Try them and see the differences!!  Rice needs to be thoroughly washed. A good way to do this is to put it into a colander,  in a deep pan of water. Rub the rice well with the hands, lifting the  colander in and out the water, and changing the water until it is clear; then drain. In this way the grit is deposited in the water, and the rice left thoroughly clean.  The best method of cooking rice is by steaming it. If boiled in much water, it loses a portion of its already small percentage of nitrogenous elements. It requires much less time for cooking than any of the other grains. Like all the dried grains and seeds, rice swells in cooking to several times its original bulk. When cooked, each grain of rice should be separate and distinct, yet perfectly tender.  Steam Red Rice Soak a cup of rice in one and a fourth cups of water for an h...
